Monarch Butterflies watercolour
I love playing with watercolours, they are so versatile, so vibrant and when you play with them anything can happen.
In this painting, I threw watercolours over heavy duty deckle edge watercolor paper and let them merge with a little bit of control but not to much. Before the paint dried I added salt here and there and I used a straw to blow the paint about. Once dried I worked on the Monarch Butterflies, building their rich deep red tones. After the butterflies had dried I went about adorning the butterflies with iridescent inks and sparkle glazes. Finally I adorned the background with flower shaped gems and confetti and mounting the work into a heavy carved black frame.
The end result is what you see today.
The original Watercolour, float mounted on white, set in a black dusty finished carved frame, total size W83cm x H106cm x D4.5cm
There will not be any prints of this work in it entirety. I may however take elements and make prints available at at later date.
Caring for your original watercolour:- To keeps colours bright and protect your painting from fading, always hang out of direct sunlight and mount under glass.
Deckle edges are rough edges and I choose this finish because I like the look of deckle edges when free floating a print under glass.
Free floating is adhering the print to a piece of mount-board larger that the print so that the rough or deckle edges can be seen when framed. This is an effective way of displaying your prints and the one I often choose at home.
